MAKE IT STAND OUT
Why Self-Care Is Important
For survivors who step into the role of service providers, the work carries a unique weight. We bring our lived experience, empathy, and insight into every conversation, every training, and every moment of support we give. This makes our presence powerful, but it can also make the work deeply personal.
Carrying both our own stories and the stories of others can stir emotions, old wounds, or unexpected triggers. That’s why self-care isn’t just helpful, it’s vital. When survivors in the field take intentional time to rest, process, and seek support, we create space for healing to continue in our own lives, even as we pour into others.
Self-care for survivor leaders might look like grounding practices, therapy, mentorship, faith, or community with other survivors who understand the weight of this work. By prioritizing our well-being, we not only protect our own healing journey, but we also ensure we can show up fully, with clarity and strength, for those we’re called to serve.
At the end of the day, honoring our own needs doesn’t take away from our calling, it sustains it. And it reminds us, and the world around us, that survivors are not just resilient, we are worthy of care, too.
